Talks & Ideas is a series of FREE events that take on big questions with a healthy dose of humour, a glass of wine and a friendly face. It’s a chance to hear from leading artists, thinkers, scientists, agitators and local heroes. Wrapped up as a tight 60-minute experience each Talks & Ideas event includes a keynote introduction, a panel discussion and a chance to ask questions.
Amazon’s Alexa received over 1 million marriage proposals and there are more than 8 billion messages exchanged on Facebook Messenger every month. With the explosion of conversational assistants, automated check outs and ancestry.com, how close is too close when it comes to our digital doubles?
Lockdowns have brought with them increased time online. Connecting with family and friends, doing our job(s) and participating in leisure all now frequently rely on using digital technologies. Is all the time we now spend online eroding our sense of self? Or does it create new opportunities for both individual and collective identities?
This talk is about technology, identity and the space in between.
The Keynote Speaker is Linda Marsden, a doctoral candidate at the Young and Resilient Research Centre at Western Sydney University, and is currently investigating young people’s health and identity through the lens of selfies and associated social media practices.
- Leanne Tobin (Dharug Artist and Playwright)
- Nick Atkins (Theatre maker from Parramatta and PhD candidate researching networked theatre practices)
- Brett Farrell (Emu Plains based lawyer with expertise in digital security and privacy)
